The initiative for this festival start with Mr & Mrs De Villiers from APS Namibia.
All u/15 players that participate in the trials for 2017 were divided into 4 teams:
1. APS Wolves
2. APS Cheetah’s
3. APS Lions
4. APS Rhino’s
The coaches involved were Lauritz Haccou, Dickson Vambe, Dallas Hangula and Jan-Izak De Villiers/Albert Mbwembwe.
On the 24th of August the official hand over of the sponsor and opening took place at the Dross’s Beer garden. This was a joyful event. All 51 players received their clothes in a goody bag that was packed for each player.
Mr Richard Frankle, President of Cricket Namibia and Mr De Villiers addressed all guests and players.
Mr Laurie Peters and Mr Franklin Green, Board Members of CN also attend the evening.
All umpires appointed received a golf shirt and a hat branded APS.
The playing conditions were as follow:
All wide’s bowled were 2 runs.
All boundaries (4’s) and sixes that were hit straight in the V were double runs.
After each toss the captains’ role a dice and the number on the dice had two “lives”
(E.g. number on dice = 4 – Batsman no 4 had a second chance when he is out).
It was decided not to reward the normal batsman, bowler and fielder but to do the following:
Lion of the tournament (Big heart, motivator, team leader, cricket lover, extra miler)
Budgie of the tournament ( Chirper, razor sharper, energizer, bouncing, team lifter)
Eagle of the tournament (flyer fielder, extra worker, proud cricketer, team player)
The APS U/15 festival kick off on the morning of 25th August 2017 with the first game that was played between the APS Lions vs APS Wolves.
The Lions won this game by 5 wickets and they were a very strong competitive team throughout the tournament.
The first night game were played between APS Wolves vs APS Cheetah’s and the Cheetah’s won by 10 wickets. Outstanding batting and bowling were seen. JC Balt bowled 1.4 overs for 7 runs and 3 wickets. Ramon Wilmot hit a tremendous 53 runs of 31 balls not out!
This was a first for most of the players and a joyful event.
Throughout the whole tournament the players were all well behaved and high quality of good cricket was played.
The players received lunch every day and also there were throughout the whole day water, drinks and Oshikandele – which they enjoyed and some looked for a second Oshikandele!
ER24 was next to the field every day and ready for any injuries that need attention.
On Saturday the 26th August 2017 the first semi-final was played between APS Wolves vs APS Cheetah’s. The Cheetah’s won by 4 wickets and again tremendous bowling and batting.
Outstanding bowling and batting from Ramon Wilmot of the APS Cheetah’s. He bowled 3 overs for 15 runs and 2 wickets and with the bat he hit 62 runs of 42 balls.
On Sunday 27th August 2017 APS Wolves played against APS Rhino’s for 3rd & 4th. The Rhino’s won by 49 runs.
The final was played between the APS Lions and the Cheetah’s. Everybody was looking forward to watch this game.

The APS Lions put 163 for 4 on the board and it was the Cheetah’s task to get this in their 20 overs

The APS Lions were crowned as the winners of the APS u/15 T20 tournament for 2017 by winning the match with 6 wickets!!
A total of 2064 runs were scored through the tournament with outstanding figures:
Jaden Cloete played 5 games 202 runs (average 101)
Ramon Wilmot played 4 games 184 runs (average 61)
Dian Neethling played 5 games 177 runs (average 44)
Jan Hendrik Potgieter played 3 games 161 runs (average 53)
Janes van Zyl played 4 games 133 runs (average 33)
A total of 342 overs were bowled with 2 525 runs and 88 wickets
Ettienne Beukes bowled 13 overs 55 runs and 7 wickets
Zian van Wyk bowled 13 overs 54 runs and 3 wickets
Armand Schietekat bowled 12 overs 71 runs and 6 wickets
Addo Ita bowled 12 overs 66 runs and 4 wickets
Xavier van Wyk bowled 12 overs 60 runs and 3 wickets
Marco Malan bowled 12 overs 46 runs and 3 wickets
This is only a few stats to proof the quality of cricket that was played.
The prize giving took place after the last game and Mr De Villiers of APS give his sincere thanks to each and every one for a successful event.

I want to give my sincere thanks from Cricket Namibia to Mr & Mrs De Villiers of APS for a wonderful and successful tournament were kids from all over Namibia got the opportunity to play cricket of high quality and were they once again saw what an awesome sport cricket is.
