The Dynamite Ducks was crowned champions of the U\12 APS XCo Blasting Birds tournament, which took place from May 09 to 12 at Wanderers Sports Ground in Windhoek.
Five competing teams (Iron Owls, Dynamite Ducks, Blazing Blackbirds, Tenacious Turkeys, Rowdy Roosters, and Thunder Hawks) played grand games of cricket. A total of 72 young players participated in the tournament.
The tournament is an extension of the youth development programs in Namibia, supported by Africa Personnel Services (APS), under the APS Cricket entity.
During the launch of the tournament, Robert de Villiers, managing director of APS, said that the primary objective of the competition is to develop young talent.
“It creates many opportunities for many young players going forward. In a few years, it will be the young ones representing us at the national level,” said de Villiers.
Deon Kotze, a board member at Cricket Namibia, applauded APS for the investment made towards cricket and the advancement of young talent in the country.
The tournament will help young people recognize their potential and what they can achieve.
“Hope we can get stars of the future from this tournament,”said Deon Kotze.
Meanwhile, de Villiers called on the robust involvement of girls in the APS Cricket development programs.
The tournament held under the theme, ‘Cricket with Character’ – to instill values of honesty, respect, loyalty and friendliness.
In addition to APS, the tournament was also sponsored by Bearing Man, Xco Sports and Ice Queen.
